Dr. Chia-Lung Hsieh (謝佳龍) is an assistant research fellow of the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Science (IAMS) at Academia Sinica in Taiwan. Dr. Hsieh received his PhD degree from Caltech in 2011. During his PhD studies, he investigated nonlinear optics in nano-sized particles and their applications to bioimaging. By exploiting the coherence nature of nonlinear optical signal of the nanoparticles, Dr. Hsieh demonstrated scan-free 3D imaging and imaging through turbid media via harmonic holographic microscopy and digital phase conjugation. In 2011, he received his PhD degree for his work “Imaging with second-harmonic generation nanoparticles” under the supervision of Prof. Demetri Psaltis. After graduation, he moved to Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen, Germany for his postdoctoral studies. He worked with Prof. Vahid Sandoghdar on lipid diffusion in lipid bilayer membranes via high-speed tracking of single nanoparticles by interferometric scattering (iSCAT) microscopy. In December of 2012, he joined IAMS as the group leader of the Bio-Nano-Photonics Lab. His current research is studying biophysics at the nanoscale with advanced optical microscopy and nanotechnology.
